In The Beginning

You’re standing on 154 acres of quiet.  The Barntique at Glendale Lake is a much bigger story to our family.

We moved here during the height of COVID from St. Augustine Florida. In 2021.  We made a life decision that felt both exciting and a little uncertain.  Our youngest of 6 children was starting her sophomore year of high school, and like many students at the time, she was struggling with the changes happening around her, just as we were, and we were burned out on Florida life.

We realized we wanted something different for our family – a place where life felt simpler and

things that mattered most were front and center.  We wanted to have more family time, more dinners  together, more small-town football games and be around folks with manners, neighbors who knew you by your name and the kind of community where people look out for one another. Kind of how “We” grew up as kids.  We wanted to give that to our daughter the last years at home with us before going off to college.  Henderson is Mayberry!  Something we felt was important transitioning our daughter into the next chapter of her life and ours. The

American Bald Eagles soaring around the lake sealed the deal.  We knew it was home.

The Barntique was never part of the big plan.  It simply grew out of our love for this place and

the peace it brings. What started as a simple idea slowly turned into what you see today.

Originally this space was never intended to become a retreat for anyone other than our family.

We began to love it so much that we wanted to share it with the world! It just keeps evolving

so we wanted to share it with as many people as we could walking this beautiful planet.

Somewhere between building it, coffee on the dock by the lake at sunrise, the sounds of native birds and frogs, we realized how peaceful this land really is, we thought, “Maybe others would see how special it is, just like we do.”

The Barntique – A place designed for guests to slow down, enjoy the lake, walk the trails, kayak the water, and experience the kind of peaceful escape that is getting harder and harder to find.  If you see us around the property, we promise we’re not spying on you or being helicopter owners – we’re probably just admiring the view ourselves, working on our expansion projects, doing maintenance and wondering how a crazy idea to escape the hustle and bustle turned into all of this.  We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
